My main hobby outside of school is a form of classical Indian dance known as Bharatanatyam. I have been learning this style since the age of 5 and performed my arangetram, a sort of graduation in which the performer dances solo for several hours in front of friends and family, in January 2006. When I arrived at UT, I joined Nritya Sangam Classical Indian Dance Troupe, with whom I performed and choreographed for over the last 4 years. In the past, I have also taught classes on the basics of this dance style. The photographs below were taken as I performed at my arangetram.
The following videos were taken over the course of the last few years when I performed with Nritya Sangam. I apologize for the quality and the fact that it is difficult to distinguish between each dancer!
The above video was taken at Jhalak 2008, a talent show that is held by one of the Indian organizations on campus every fall. This particular dance was called "Fire" and was the first that I helped choreograph for Nritya Sangam.
This dance was performed at our annual fall benefit show in November 2009. Each year, Nritya Sangam chooses a charitable organization to support and the proceeds from the benefit show are then donated to that beneficiary.
This video is of Nritya Sangam performing at UT's annual campus-wide talent show, Texas Revue 2010.
This dance was performed at our annual fall benefit show in November 2010. This dance was another that I helped to choreograph.
